After studying for a degree in Art & Design, Thomas von Nordheim started his career by serving a three year Tailoring apprenticeship at Lore Lang in Duesseldorf, considered to be one of Germany’s best Haute Couture salon as far as traditional craftsmanship is concerned.

Following his journeyman’s examination he briefly worked in the costume department during a Peter Greenaway film shoot and came to London in the early 90s to work for Ulrich Engler, amongst numerous other designers of couture, cutting-edge fashion and costume.

Significant for his future were the over six years that he spent in the faded grandeur of the House of Lachasse, the very last surviving true London Couture House established before the war. Thorough training prepared him to deal with the demanding, illustrious clientele, which included many members of the British Aristocracy, Politics and High Society.
In the Lachasse workrooms Thomas fine-tuned his eye for colour, line and balance, being responsible for the translation of design sketches into patterns as well as cutting, fitting and painstakingly constructing, still mostly done by hand,  the tailored garments for the collections and clients.

As Lachasse sadly closed after 80 years in business, Thomas started to teach and his regular engagements as lecturer include The Royal College of Art and London College of Fashion. Many private commissions started to come in and Thomas established his own atelier.
Recognising his customers love for en-suite accessories, he is now able to provide a true head-to-toe bespoke service:  for years of private study with Royal Warrant holding milliner Marie O’Reagan he offers hatmaking too. Thomas also sourced highly skilled artisans, who undertake the making of the one-off shoes he designs to go with clients outfits.

Thomas von Nordheim’s style is of nowadays rare, understated elegance. The designers solid background in hard tailoring shows in the clean cut and structure of the garments and clients will adore the flattering fit and superb quality of the luxurious fabrics in beautifully sourced or specially dyed colours.
The flawless workmanship with minute attention to detail is bound to excite the discerning customer disappointed by declining standards elsewhere. The places where you get perfect buttonholes hand-embroidered in silk and hand stitched, piped linings are very few indeed these days. It is standard here!
