H A U T E C O U T U R E Traditionally tailored construction has but almost disappeared in modern garment making with few exception of mainly gentlemen’s tailor workshops. The techniques used are unchanged for centuries and highly complex. From the cutting of the tailor’s shears to the final press it takes some 50 hours and over 200 separate operations, which are mostly executed by hand, to engineer a coat for example. From very architectural evening dresses, which have built-in bustiers so that undergarments are not necessary, to the finest chiffon blouses with hand-rolled hems, we offer a complete dressmaking service too. After an initial consultation, discussing the style and taking the clients measurements, an array of suitable sample materials is supplied. We carry a large range of stock but order special yardages chosen from our extensive fabric library from Britain, France and Italy at short notice. After about a fortnight the first of usually three fittings is carried out. We should be allowed between 4-6 weeks to complete the order. |
